Explore Whiteclay, NE

Whiteclay, Nebraska is a small unincorporated village located near the border of South Dakota. With a population of less than 10 people, it is one of the smallest communities in the state. However, despite its size, Whiteclay gained national attention due to its proximity to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation and its role in the sale of alcohol. For many years, the village was known for its four liquor stores that sold millions of cans of beer annually to residents of the dry reservation. This led to numerous social issues and health problems among the Native American population, sparking controversy and calls for the closure of the stores.
